Sophie Moore

Cambodia

I grew up in Northern Ireland and trained as a primary school teacher.  For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a teacher and education has always played a big role in my life.  I am passionate about teaching and desire to educate and help people in a way that will make a positive impact on their life and their future.

When I was growing up, I remember visiting missionaries coming to church and when I heard their stories I hoped that God would use me as a missionary one day.

During my teacher studies I had the chance to travel to Asia for the first time. I spent some time serving in China as a teacher and fell in love with the country.  Whenever I left China I knew that God had more plans in Asia for me in the future.  I first visited Cambodia in 2016.  I loved the people that I met and really wanted to return to work alongside the Elim family there. For the past few years I have gone on short term trips to Cambodia. Each time, I have wanted to stay even longer. Last year I served in Cambodia alongside Elim Cambodia for a year and then came back to Northern Ireland and I have just completed the Elim Missions Academy.  During this time I have felt God’s leading and direction for me personally and for what he wants me to do when I return to Cambodia.

In Cambodia, I will continue working alongside the Elim Cambodia church. The church is involved in different ministries with a focus on church planting, Be Free Cambodia - which is an organisation that works with women who have been or are at risk of being exploited and the Early Learning Centre which provides childcare for babies up until children of school age.  I will be serving and helping with the team there and focusing on a few key areas.

  • Teaching English to the young people in the community.  Through these relationships that we build, we hope to introduce the young people to God and the church family.  ?Teaching English and helping with bible studies in Be Free Cambodia.  ?Leading bible studies with women in the church.
  • I will also work hard to study the Khmer language to help me serve effectively as I live alongside the Cambodian people.

I am excited for my journey in Cambodia to continue and thank God for the opportunity to go and join in His plan and mission for the beautiful people of Cambodia
