The McKillop's Newsletter: May - July 2026

Dear Friends

The past three months have passed into eternity with a speed that still makes us wonder where the time has gone. It serves to demonstrate that only those things of eternal value done in people’s lives by the Holy Spirit will endure beyond time as we know it. It has been exciting to see attendances at Bible Schools this year rise again and we are convinced that our existing programs are meeting a real need in the developing Church in the North Western Province of Zambia.

Ladies Conference

One of the highlights of the Nyangombe calendar year is when well over a hundred ladies meet to be taught God’s Word and what it means to be a Christian spreading light in their village communities. Older ladies encourage the younger ladies to study God’s Word daily, to memorise Scripture and to let it ‘shine’ through their lives in their own home villages

The Lord’s protection

Every day at 07 o’clock, we meet with all the workers at Nyangombe to center our thoughts on the Lord and pray for His help and protection. Recently I returned from a short trip to town and was met by rather sad faced trainees at the workshop who told me, that Jonathan, their trainer in the workshop had fallen off the bridge with the dumper, turned upside down and plunged into the Nyangombe River. I asked immediately how Jonathan was and rejoiced in the fact he was totally unhurt. Metal can be repaired but we realized afresh how the Lord takes care of us in so many life-threatening situations.

Scripture Union Youth Camp 2026

youthcamp1

youthcamp2We make feeble efforts every year to limit the number of Secondary School students to 120 per camp. The problem is that there are so many young people and they go crying to their teachers because they want to go to ‘Nyangombe’,,, and many teachers relent!! These decisions taken in schools have consequences for the campers and us. The students are happy to sleep two or three on a mattress on the floor so accommodation for 180 is resolved. We still have to get them there on trucks. We call into the local Police Station to get permission and then start loading! One truck carried 80 students and the other 100. For safety’s sake we took two hours to very slowly transport the campers 20 miles!! The opportunities for the Lord to influence young lives at Youth Camps cannot be underestimated. Many who today come as ‘Senior Friends’ were once campers themselves and now come as helpers and counsellors taking time away from their own busy Church lives. Over thirty young folks made first time decisions to follow Christ and many recommitted their lives to the Lord.

We thank all who pray for the work at Nyangombe and as leaders we are constantly aware that nothing can be accomplished of eternal value unless the Lord is front and center of every activity.

Grateful thanks for prayer!,
Gordon and Sybil
