August 2026 Update

Dear Friends

We hope and pray that you are all well!

In this newsletter, we are coming to you, our family, for prayer.

To begin with, we come to you asking for prayer for Japan following an earthquake with the magnitude of 7.1, that struck Kumamoto prefecture, on the Island of Kyushu last week. Unfortunately at least 13 people across the prefecture have lost their lives, hundreds have been injured, and around 10,000 people have been evacuated to shelters. The damage caused has been vast: an explosion in a mall, several buildings and bridges have collapsed, over 30,000 homes have been left without power, and over 80,000 left without running water, all whilst Japan is in the throes of a scorching summer, raising the prospects of a compound disaster.

Would you join us in prayer for those affected? The families, the leaders, the government, the healthcare, the emergency services and everyone working hard to bring relief.

We are based in West Tokyo, around a 2-hour flight from Kyushu. We are grateful to God for His covering and protection over us, that we were not impacted by the earthquake. Though it can be difficult living here and not being able to practically help, the Japanese Government have advised that people do not enter Kyushu to offer assistance lest it be part of an authorised organisation. So, instead we pray to the one true King, who can bring relief, comfort to those who are grieving, and wisdom for authorities, in such a difficult time for those on the Island of Kyushu.

Following that prayer point, our personal prayer points seem insignificant in comparison, however, in Matthew 7:7-8, we are encouraged to ask, seek and knock. So we shall…

• Visa Renewals: We are currently in the process of renewing our visas, which has been a very lengthy process. And for this to happen, Jordan has been working tirelessly to ensure all documents and forms are being processed correctly - together with the amazing support of the potential (granted all gets accepted) new partners and Elim International Missions, who have been absolutely amazing in their support of these next steps. Please pray for the documents are all correct, that Elim and the Japanese government accept our applications, and we get everything completed in good time.
• Part-Time Language Learning: We will be pursuing part time language school in order for us to be effective at sharing the love of Jesus Christ to the people of Japan, whom we live and work alongside. We currently have no knowledge of how to share the gospel with a non-believer in Japanese. We can’t share our life story, and about how good God is - nothing. Please pray as we choose a language school, go through admission in good time and work out travel mechanics etc.
• Provision for the new season: We trust and believe that the Lord will provide for what He wills, and we are currently praying into provision for a couple of things, one being the rental renewal of our home, which is due within the next 30 days (2-3 times our rent), and the other being the cost of language school for both of us (a monthly cost). If you can personally offer support, know someone who might be able to, or can pray for all of the supply to match His work, we would be truly grateful.

What’s coming up:

In August, I (Nitasha) have been invited to teach English classes to a group of elderly Japanese ladies; where there is an openness to discuss topics that I can choose, though it may be very conservative, this can include faith-based topics. The class will be carried out in English, so I’m not as nervous as I think I would be if I had to use my simple Japanese to do it. Please pray that I’m able to be used by God, how He wills, in this space. Jordan also has some exciting opportunities ahead that pertains to music, and community building in the café that he works at as a DJ, as well as working on an event in another record café in our locality. Please pray for favour in these new connections and for the skills the Lord has blessed Jordan with would boast of the excellence of God.

Our prayer for these opportunities is that we begin to build lasting and trusting relationships with more non-Christian Japanese people, and evoke faith-based conversations between ourselves as Christians, the Christians we know and the non-Christians we are getting to know. Some of those non-Christians own small businesses, some of them are creatives, and some are people we’ve met along the way. As we carry Jesus with us into those encounters, events and relationships where Jesus is completely unheard of, we believe that He will bring better perspectives, create better environments and speak hope through us.

We look forward to updating you in our next newsletter of some of the amazing ways in which God has lead us, all to bring His kingdom to the people of Japan who don’t yet know Him. There are still over 35 million Japanese people in Tokyo alone who don’t know the hope of the Cross and the reality of the Comforter! So please help us win Tokyo for the Lord!
