Greetings from Lancaster!

We are now entering the last week at home before we go up to Dundee to participate in the preparations for Sarah’s (Tim's sister) wedding. Mind you, some preparations have been in progress for many months already. Ali has been working on making homemade cordials (aka squash, concentrated fruit drinks) for the wedding. Elderflower, Lemon lime and mint, Red gooseberry and ginger are already made, Blackberry is on its way and several others will be made fresh the day before the wedding.

Dan has spent the last week in Southampton seeing friends; lots of board games and a trip to a climbing wall were involved. Trains proved to be a bit of a nightmare on the way back with lots of delays and ending with Tim driving to Preston to collect him. But he did make it back!

Dan’s preparations for returning to University are on track. He has heard from student finance but is still waiting on final confirmation of funding from them. He has accommodation sorted with the house he previously stayed in, with many of the people he was with before.

I (Ali) have mostly been busy dealing with processing contributions of new information coming into Ethnologue. Many of them raise interesting questions, such as, where worldwide is Yiddish spoken today and it is still being learnt by children? Did you know that Venetian is apparently being spoken in a city in Mexico and that Catalan used to be spoken in Algeria? It is enjoyable digging into some of these questions, but it can be very time-consuming!

Tim continues to monitor delicate geopolitical situations globally and advise those potentially affected by them. He is enjoying working with his teammate, who has a lot of experience in other parts of the world. So far, it seems the two of them have very complementary skills, interests and experience and are enjoying working together.
