Newsletter July 2020

Greetings from Sophie

Hi everyone

sophie

Sophie Moore
Currently serving in Cambodia with Elim Missions for one year

Thank you so much for taking time to read about the work of God in Cambodia. Even though this is an extremely difficult and uncertain time for so many people around the world, I am so encouraged by all that God continues to do. Here in Cambodia we are seeing God provide food and support for hungry people and He is building and growing relationships in ways that would not have been possible before.

I hope you enjoy reading the updates about the different ministries at Elim Cambodia.

God Bless, Sophie

Worship recording for the Ladies Conference

We have still been unable to meet again together in our church building.

We have continued to meet in small groups each Sunday to have fellowship together. Like many people we are missing the whole church family meeting together.

Next Month on August 8th we will have our first online ladies conference and it will be on the theme of “Value of Women”. A team of women and men have all been working hard to organize this. Lots of videos have been made and translation has been taking place as we will show the conference online at 9am UK time. We hope that as many people as possible can join us for this. .

Please keep looking on the “Elim Cambodia” Facebook page as this will give more information and be where you can watch the conference online.

Next month there will be a new girl joining Be Free. All the staff and current girls in Spirit means in our lives. few initial tears. the programme are excited for this precious girl to join them. This is an answer to prayer as it is more difficult than before to get new girls for the programme.

An English and Khmer Bible study has been completed for each girl to follow when she joins the programme.

The bible study covers many topics ranging from How we can pray, to what the Holy Spirit means in our lives.

One of the children starting back at the ELC

We are so pleased to share the amazing news that this month the ELC has been able to open again. It has opened with safety precautions in place for the staff and children. Not all of the children have returned to the ELC but those who have are now settling well after a few initial tears.

All of the staff said they are happy the children have returned but they are worried about more cases of Covid-19 in the country. They are worried and do not want the ELC to have to close again.

Church Planting News

Some of the families receiving food packages

More and more we are aware of very needy people in Cambodia who are struggling to have enough food for their families during this time. Many have now lost jobs or their income has greatly been reduced. The Church Planting team desired to help some of these people in the areas where they have churches planted.

Through the Elim Missions Relief Appeal the team were able to provide food packages for 37 families in 8 different provinces. The families were each so grateful. One of the families that received the food package was a Pastor who had given away his last portion of rice to a member of his congregation. He prayed to God to provide for his families need and that is when a few days later he received this food package. We praise God for the way He is meeting people’s needs and for the support that has been provided for the people of Cambodia.

Learning English Online

This past month we have been able to organize and start Zoom lessons online for our community English students. It has been wonderful to see them again and to study together. The students are really keen to learn and each of them have said they are missing school. We see these young people in the community most days so we can still build on our relationship with them

We have been able to set homework for them and then we can go to see them and mark this work.

Please keep praying for these students that they will ultimately come to know Jesus in their lives.

Prayer Points

  • The first online Ladies Conference that will take place August 8th.
  • Please pray for the new strategy that is being put together for the church planting work. Pray for God’s direction in this.
