Lynette Orange: July 2018 Newsletter

Spring has Sprung

july1But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is Him. He will be like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It will not worry in a year of drought or cease producing fruit. Jeremiah 17:8

july2As I have stepped into this new season I can testify to the goodness of God and His never- failing love. By building my trust and hope in Him alone He has kept me, like the tree planted in the waters, and taught me not to worry.

As we have taken steps of faith this year in regards to the academy and our scholars God has rewarded our obedience and provided for us in ways we could not even imagine. I am excited for this new school year and although it is challenging at times, as we grow, great is the reward at the end of the year.

BWA Ball and New Friends!

july3One of the exciting things to have happened over the past 2 years has been the development of a partnership with the British Women’s Association (BWA) here in Manila. Over the past few years they have taken an interest in what we are doing at City Gates Academy and helped donate tables, CCTV and this year they are helping with child sponsorships. Every year they host a charity ball and it was a privilege to be invited to attend. This year they plan to come and read with our children every week and I am really excited about this new venture and partnership.

Equip Educators Conference

july4Looking to impact more teachers this year we organized and held two teacher training conferences. One in Manila and the other in Coron. Three teachers from the UK who belong to the Senior Volunteer Network (SVN) took time to plan, prepare and deliver 2 days of excellent training for almost 100 teachers in the Philippines who ordinarily would not have access. It was a huge success and we hope to replicate again in the future.

City Gates Academy is growing!

july5After a long wait, in which we still do not have the official paperwork, we have been verbally granted our permit to operate up to Grade 6. This is a huge achievement and whilst we only plan to operate one new grade level a year it means we are on track for our dream, to see City Gates Academy operating a pre- school and complete elementary school. We have employed 2 new teachers and started Grade 3 this year and we currently have 12 scholars. The dream is becoming a reality.

Prayer Points

For those who remember us in prayer, here are some specific prayer points:

  • Thanksgiving for the awarding of our permits! A huge answer to prayer. We actually had to start the school year with no permit as the Department of Education still had not completed their inspection. Thankfully, they finally came during our second week of school and verbally gave us our permits, we are just waiting on the paperwork.
  • Parents Alpha - we have just started our new alpha course for this school year for our parents. Please pray for an openness and willingness to hear the gospel.
  • Typhoon season - we have been enduing heavy monsoon rains for almost 2 weeks now which has caused severe disruption already across the Philippines. School has been cancelled for 4 days already and we are only at the start of the season. Please pray for Gods protection on our children, families and communities.

With love always,

Lynette
