News from Guatemala - April 2018

Rachel & Oscar Mendoza

What a busy first term we’ve had at the Light House this year! But full of fun, smiles and good things. Here are some updates on all that has been going on here in Guatemala...

Bible Time

Each day at Light House club we spend the last half hour readingt he Bible and teaching the kids a little bit about God and how he loves them! This has been going well and we have been so blessed to have the local YWAM base come alongside us in this. Every Monday they come and read through the Action Bible new testament with the kids, which is a comic book style Bible. We are then able to reinforce what they have read with teachings later in the week. The kids have responded really well to this. Please pray for us for inspiration in what we prepare and to find new ways to keep the children engaged and excited about what we are doing and what they are learning. Our constant prayer is that the Holy Spirit will use our simple words to speak powerfully to the children’s hearts.

Residency Application

A quick update and some more good news on our residency application - Oscar’s application has now also been approved! We have our interview date for the end of May, and trusting all goes well we should have our residency soon afterward. Please pray for a smooth interview process, a nice interviewer, and that this last step goes just as smoothly as the rest of the process. We praise God for how well this has all gone and trust this last part to him. Thank you all so much for praying with us through all of this, we have really seen the power of prayer!

Youth Club

Our new youth club has been up and running since February, it has been crazy and loud and high energy! But we figure that must mean they’re having fun.. actually, it’s a little unnerving when they are quiet! We’ve been receiving around 10-12 young people each week, which has been a good start. We have already made one major change, that it is no longer on a Friday night but Saturday afternoon. This has enabled more girls to come, as many are not allowed out after dark. This term we plan to step out into more discipleship with them. Please pray for inspiration and anointing for us, and for the kids to have a real encounter with their Father God.

Guests of Honour

Last month, it was such a joy to have Rachel’s parents here with us. Not just for us  but for the kids too! Mum and Dad jumped in so whole heartedly and the kids were just lapping up everything they told them about England - especially pictures of the snow! One of the highlights was when they shared the Easter story and how it is celebrated in England, the kids were just so amazed by everything, and the mini Easter eggs went down a treat! We can’t express how much family visits mean to us and what a lift and encouragement it was to have them here.

Prayer Points

Please pray for

  • Inspiration for Bible teachings with the younger kids, and for times of discipleship with the youth group.
  • For our interviews for residency at the end of May and that all will go smoothly in this last stage.
  • For new people to come alongside us as part of the Light House team.
  • Deeper encounters with the Father’s love, that we will pass this on to the children.
  • Protection, safety & health.
