Spring (Printemps) 2018 Update

“"...but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us." Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT)

BAB CHURCH

January started well with two new people coming to our Monday night group which now means we have totally out grown our lounge which hosts home church on a Monday night. In total we now have 17 people associated with the group!

We were back in the UK for two weeks in February to update some of our key partners and visit a few amazing churches. It was great to catch up with so many people and we left really encouraged by your support and continued prayers.

The group has grown spiritually and are now asking us to run church on a Sunday! Not only music to our ears but a blessing in that their former ‘anti-establishment’ concepts have now vanished. Once a space becomes available we will be looking at how we can effectively do this as we don’t have the funds to sustain weekly rental costs to host church in.

WAR ROOM

Good news! As you may know, Biarritz is one of the three towns where God told us to plant church in the BAB region of France. It is also the hardest and most expensive to find a suitable location to meet. We have met a great Christian missionary couple who live in Biarritz, who are unattached to a specific church - they are missional minded and are very keen to work with us asap. They rent an incredible building which they have called ‘La Ruche’ (translated it means ‘the Beehive’). The basement of this building is what has captured our heart. We are going to be working in partnership with them to transform this space into a ‘War Room’, effectively a prayer room with a vision to open it up 24/7 long term and for different churches to utilise it to the work of the kingdom.

So we are prayerfully calling out for help from short term missionaries, painters, carpenters, handymen/women, who feel led and called to come and be a part of this incredible project. We will be undertaking the work between 24th-29th May.

There is also space for 2 more online businesses to take up resident space within a shared office. If anyone is interested in cheaper, shared Christian office space, in an exciting location in the South of France and could also lend a hand and be part of this vision then we want to hear from you.

NEW HOME CHURCH IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY

We have recently partnered with some Basque and French friends, who we have had fellowship with for the last 12 months to plant a home church in their village. Since January we have been gathering fortnightly to worship and share God’s word and have a shared meal afterwards. This is hosted in their large open plan Basque house in the village. Our personal aim is to encourage, equip and support these people to evangelise their village, to reach the lost and unchurched with the gospel. On paper that sounds easy, but we are starting from scratch with regards to teaching them about church planting – it will be a slow process. To give you a little insight to the area that they are planting in to - There are Shamen’s who live next door, witches covens, New Age followers amongst many occult faiths and caves in the area used to host annual summer solstice events of witchcraft and pagan rituals which are not just embraced, but recreated each year. There is some breakthrough though - A few neighbours are experiencing dark forces in their homes and are turning to our friends for help and advice, to which they are also open to prayer and some send their children to gather with us to worship.

MARKET MINISTRY

This is on hold until Kevin finishes his full time intensive French lessons which are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm! However, there is a non-Christian, British lady in these lessons with Kevin who we are meeting up with regularly and she is open to the idea of assisting us with this ministry. Wouldn’t it be incredible if this lady came to faith whilst serving the Lord indirectly? The concept of this ministry is to create a ‘Coffee and Chat’ style meet up, for people to practice their English, discuss life, meet new friends over a coffee in the open market place in Anglet. With the aim of relationally reaching out to the lost.

Thank you to our current sponsors and prayer partners for standing with us. This mission would not be possible without you all. Prayer is the solid foundation on which this exciting mission for Jesus stands, may the Lord bless you all mightily for your steadfast love and support to further the kingdom in the BAB region of the Basque Country.

Happy Easter - He is Risen!

Prayer Points

Please stand in prayer with us this month on the following:

  • Pray for Rhys as he starts preparing for his end of year exams. How he performs in these will determine which college he goes to next year. As it stands, the one he would like to go to will require a huge effort from him to achieve satisfactory results for them to accept him.
  • Izzi will aslo be taking er A-Level exams this summer. Please pray for her as she prepares for these.
  • Volunteers/ short term missionaries to come and develop and decorate the War Room.
  • Free space to be identified in Bayonne to meet in on Sundays.
  • The church plant in St. Martin d’Arrosa –protection, fruit, unchurched people
  • Market Ministry – for more people to come on board with the concept so it can start in April.

SUPPORT US

Its not often that we ask but If you feel going on mission is not your call but perhaps you are led to support us financially, even £10 per month can make all the difference to us meeting our monthly bills. As we increase our activities in 2018, it means that our costs will also be increasing. Monthly sponsorship or one off financial gifts are paid directly into our individual personal account held at Elim Missions

Many Thanks,

Kevin & Teresa Pickup.
