Be Free Cambodia: August 2017
At the outset of this newsletter we want to express our sincere thanks to everyone who supports the ministry of Be Free Cambodia. We could not run this program without your help so whether you give financially or support us in prayer we appreciate you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Be assured that you are making a difference to the lives of the young women who come through the doors of Be Free Cambodia.
When we returned to Cambodia in June following our furlough we held a baptismal service and we were delighted to baptise one of the trainees. She has had such an horrendous life before she entered Be Free and it is amazing to watch her transformation before our very eyes. As well as being a faithful member of our church family, she volunteers every Sunday afternoon with the church planting team helping out with the Happy Kids Clubs in the provinces. She is a very joyful young lady and we are all extremely fond of her. She shared these words with us about how she feels since coming to Be Free.
“Since I came into Be Free my life has changed in so many ways. I have learnt a lot from God studying the Bible, I have patience, I help and love others, I have learnt to be honest. I am growing in God every day, to have forgiveness; and now I know that God is good and really loves me. When I had bad life God was always with me and now I know that I don’t want to go back and do something wrong again.I want to thank God for blessing me to be able to be a part of this project.’’
We are experiencing a Baby Boom in Be Free this year! Firstly in March Channak, our sewing teacher, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy called Harmony. With his Daddy being our worship leader and running his own music school it was only fitting that a little brother to Melody would be given a musical themed name. Harmony is thriving and Channak returned to work after three months maternity leave. He has settled well into the Early Learning Centre and we are thrilled to have Channak back with us.
In June one of our precious trainees gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. The night she was born is one I will never forget. On a Sunday evening as we were finishing our dinner we received a phone call to say her waters had broken. We met at the centre and a squad of us piled into the car and went to a hospital, on the way Mum to be asked us to help her choose a Bible name for her daughter. I scrolled through Google reciting the name and its meaning and she choose Grace when she understood it meant ‘blessing’. The first hospital had no room and after a few phone calls about where to try next we arrived and after a consultation discovered she would require a C section. Both Mother and Baby are perfectly well and Baby Grace is adored by everyone. On Sunday we have baby corner where all the mums and their little ones sit on a mat at the back of church and everyone is fighting over cuddling the babies.
In June we also received the wonderful news that Sokim, who manages the Be Free program, is pregnant and due in January 2018. She is now over the morning sickness period and feeling much better. Sokim and Somnang have just found out that they are expecting a baby brother for big sister Chiera. We are thrilled for Sokim and Somnang who will celebrate their first wedding anniversary in October.
Also in June we were honoured to have Katie Dugmore who runs her own business called ‘Bloom Christian Jewellery’ spend one week in Be Free teaching the girls various techniques in jewellery making. Both Katie and I were blown away by how quickly the girls grasped the new skills and were even coming up with their own designs. We are so grateful to Katie for coming to Cambodia and sharing her amazing talent and passing it on so we can produce jewellery to be sold through Elim Missions’ Shop With Integrity project. Later this year necklaces, bracelets and earrings will be shipped to the UK and will be available to purchase, supporting the ongoing work of Be Free.
It may only be July but we have been in the Christmas spirit as the trainees are currently making Christmas decorations and cards that will also be sent to the UK. This year’s designs are beautiful and the girls are enjoying creating them. We also have set up an Instagram page which you can follow ‘Be Free Cambodia’ where we put up posts about items we are making and life in our Be Free Cambodia centre.
Pray for one of our trainees’ family in the province, and also her boyfriend, to receive God.
Pray for one of our trainees and her family who know God to grow strong in Him; she thanks God for the blessing of Be Free and asks us to pray for all the people in Cambodia to receive God.
Pray for one of our trainees who needs a real touch from God, she has a lot of emotional trauma in her life and worries a lot; pray for her two little daughters at this time.
Pray for one of our trainees to have good health and for her boyfriend to come back to God. She doesn’t want him to put money before God, and wants him to spend time with God like before.
In closing Sokim and Channak would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supports Be Free. You are helping change lives for the better.
God bless you, we all love you very much.
