New Century New Opportunity
As we enter 2015 to honour the past 100 years and embrace the future of our Movement – A key to MPower’s goals is to build and encourage a spiritual heritage for the rising generations of Men within our local Elim churches nationwide.
Living the Christian life in contemporary society stretches and tests guys on many levels in work, life, family & church.
MPower aims to facilitate the equipping of Men in our movement doing life in the 21st Century through discipleship. To that end we are inviting Men’s groups across Elim Churches to engage in the MPower Mission on a local, regional and national basis.
The Mission – Comprises 7 key principles through which we can engage the Men in our movement in relation to different spiritual aspects of their lives and the MPower Team will be expanding these in future issues.
-
Brotherhood – In Relation to Each Other - Psalm 133 implies that “where brethren live together in unity it’s a place of commanded blessing.” None of us were designed to live life in isolation. It’s a powerful dynamic when guys do “life together” spiritually, socially and in serving together.
-
Iron-Sharpening – In Relation to the Sword and the Spirit - Proverbs 27:17 states that “As Iron Sharpens Iron so one Man sharpens another”, in my experience the evidence for this is overwhelming and a vital part of our spiritual growth.
-
Life-Coaching – In Relation to Spiritual Fathers – Paul was calling out the Fathers in the Gospel (1 Cor 4:15) and this represents a key principle’s in the MPower Mission.
-
Life-Style – In Relation to the World – in Matthew 28:19 Jesus said “Go into all the world and make disciples…” (Matt 28:19) We want to see transformed authentic men in Christ reaching others.
-
Prayer - In Relation to the Father – There is a reward for every man who seeks earnestly after the Father (Hebrews 11:6).
-
Purpose - In Relation with Destiny – Each man has a Calling on His life that only he can fulfil in Christ and it’s MPower’s Mission to see generations of men encouraged and victorious in their God-given calling (Romans 8:28).
-
Pursuit - In Relating to Christ – Jesus was intentional in calling his disciples to him that they might be with Him and equipped in Him. The Good News is that Christ still calls men to Pursue Him and become like Him through the pursuit of Discipleship (Mark 3:14).
MPower Local – Where do I Start? You may be asking yourself the question where do you start in engaging Men in your local church to join The MPower Mission? Well, as the relatively new Pastor of the Gatehouse Church in Porth in the Rhondda Valley, where there is no existing ministry to men, I’m in the same boat as you, starting from the ground-level. Fortunately for me I’ve travelled this road before and seen the few guys in a “Band of Brothers” grow to an army over a hundred guys in the room.
As far as I’m concerned Male Ministry starts and ends with relationship. So I’ll be inviting a few guys with a heart for Men’s Stuff to join me for a chat and a bite to eat to decide what steps we are going to take to move into Mission Mode. We’ll probably start in a social setting to build relationship and strategically plan the next 6-12 months to include social, sporting and spiritual elements within our local MPower Schedule.
Why don’t you do the same and keep us informed so that we can encourage you and your team also. I’ll keep you briefed of my progress from a ground-level opportunity over the next months.
