Commissioning day starts fresh chapter

Regents Theological College held its annual Commissioning Day Service on the College campus in West Malvern on 1st June 2019.

The day marked the achievements of students graduating from both Regents Theological College undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and the Elim Missions Academy.

Very much a day to share with families and friends, Regents held a reception from 10am, followed by a buffet lunch on the terrace, with the Commissioning Day Service at 2pm in the Elim Arts Centre. This was followed by tea and cakes, before students and their guests left for home.

Commissioning Day is often seen as the culmination of students three years of study at Regents, with the goal of ‘Training Leaders and Transforming Lives’. It is also a time to share with family, friends, church members and people who have helped during student’s journey, the valuable contribution they have made whilst not directly involved on a day-to-day basis. Dave Newton, Principal of Regents and Director of Elim Training, said “I am constantly reminded that we do not do anything in isolation, but only with the love and support of the community and fellowship of those around us”.

He continued, “For all the commissionees, as you mark this moment, our hope is that you will take time to reflect on all that you have learnt, the good and the challenging, and  think of everything you will take with you into the future. This is a unique moment to start this fresh chapter with renewed hope and vision”.

Worship was led by Kerenza Beckerleg and the College worship team, with over 150 people taking part in the service.

The annual EJ Phillips Prize, in honour of one of the founding fathers of the Elim Churches, went to Rianne Card for her commitment to all avenues of College life; and the Jeffreys Prize, in honour of George Jeffreys, founder of the Elim Movement, went to Stephen Smith for his commitment to evangelism.
