Praying at the start of 2019 - A year of alignment

At the start of the New Year, many of us will be looking ahead with anticipation. It is an opportunity to commit again to personal renewal, to praying for one another, to seeking God’s will and direction and interceding on behalf of our nation.

Let’s take time in January to focus our prayers on four themes, seeking and listening to God, responding with faith and obedience. Let’s bring ourselves into alignment with the Kingdom plans and purposes of God.

We encourage you to make time to pray individually as well joining together in your church prayer meetings. We've especially called Elim's leaders together for a national day of prayer on Wednesday 9 January 2019, so why not join with us in prayer on that day, wherever you are in the world.

We have produced a prayer guide for your personal prayer times, small groups, prayer gatherings and corporate prayers. You can view the guide on this page, taking you through four key areas for prayer and the guide is also available to download.

1. Personal Renewal

  • Open up to God and invite the Spirit to search your heart.
  • Realign your heart and mind as God speaks.
  • Receive the fullness and leading of God.

2. Praying for One Another

  • Pray for one another, asking the Spirit to fan into flame and stir up the gifts. Pray for your leaders to be strengthened and refreshed.
  • Pray for unity and reconciliation; that we may be one.
  • Listen and share anything prophetic God reveals.

3. Praying for Churches

  • Thank God for the church you are part of. Be specific. For what or whom are you giving God thanks?
  • Ask God for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit to refresh, renew and transform in and through the church.
  • Pray for God’s wisdom and direction, to align the church with His Kingdom plans and purposes, keeping in step with the Spirit.

4. Praying for the Nations

  • Pray for our nation at a time of great challenge and uncertainty.
  • Pray for our family of nations, for leaders and for peace and prosperity. God grant us favour.
  • Pray for God’s leading and wisdom as we head towards Brexit.

Renewal, Recommitment and Realignment

At the start of the new year, Elim's General Superintendent Chris Cartwright released a video message, especially to our Elim family. Shown in Elim churches on the first Sunday of 2019, this video further highlights that 2019 is a year of realignment.
