God is moving in Cambodia!

Elim Missions content creator Jack Skett and Elim missionary Sophie Moore look back at an event that saw 26,000 people gathering to hear the Gospel

The Gospel truly is the most wonderful news there is. It transforms individual lives, changes communities and even impacts nations. Elim missionary Sophie Moore has seen this first-hand in recent months. She writes:

“A few weeks after our wedding, we received a phone call from Sarun’s dad saying that he wanted to know Jesus. He asked us, ‘Can I know Jesus?’ We were so excited to hear this, as he had spent his whole life following another religion.

“It turns out that, at our wedding, different people had spoken to him about God, and our services were centred on Christ in worship. This was very different from a typical Cambodian wedding, and God had already been at work in his heart. We stayed with the family for two nights, and on the second night Sarun’s sister told us that their dad had been asking about Jesus again. He said he had been waiting for us to visit because he wanted to go to church. That evening, Sarun spoke with his dad about Jesus, and he responded clearly, saying, ‘I want my name in the book’ – referring to the Book of Life. That night, Sarun had the privilege of leading his dad to the Lord. We were all so thankful, and we worshipped God together in song and prayer.”

Around the same time (in January), an event was organised by a group of churches under the banner ‘Love Siem Reap’. They gathered 26,000 people at the old disused airport in Siem Reap to hear Franklin Graham preach the Gospel. Sophie and Sarun were there, serving on the prayer team over the two nights of the event. Over that weekend, more than 2,000 people responded to the Gospel message and gave their lives to Jesus.

Sophie writes:

“God is moving in this nation, and this feels like the beginning of something significant for this northern area of the country. The door is open for the Good News; people are in need, as many have lost hope.”
