Lisburn City Elim Pentecostal Church
Lisburn City Elim Pentecostal Church is a cross-community fellowship ministering to people of all ages.
The church places considerable emphasis on worshipping God and is led in this by a dynamic group of musicians and singers. However, the Church’s main thrust lies in evangelism and the teaching of God’s word by the power of the Holy Spirit. It has been instrumental in winning souls from both sides of Northern Ireland’s religious and political divide.
The church opened its doors to worshippers in January 1921 and has outgrown a number of buildings since then. It recently completed a redevelopment programme and the improved facilities are helping the church expand its ministries and serve more people.
The church has been led by Pastor Norman Christie since 1993. He is married to Doreen, and they have four children and eight grandchildren. Norman is a second generation Elim minister. Following 20 years of employment in the BP Oil Refinery, Norman was accepted as a probationer in November 1982 and ordained as an Elim Minister in 1986.
What is the church's vision?
'We are passionate about serving the communities around us. In light of this vision, it was realised that our existing facilities were inadequate and we have invested £1.1 million in a three-storey development — the lower floor is assigned to children’s work, the middle floor for the general sanctuary and the upper floor provides dedicated space for our youth.'
What is unique about your church?
'Our new three-storey complex with its high tech facilities lends itself to a wide range of activities including use as a Conference Centre. The four-storey tall prayer tower embracing the lift, offices and upper prayer room, has proved to be a particularly exciting development.'

Out and about
John Glass, Elim's General Superintendent, visited Lisburn City Elim Pentecostal Church in September 2009. Here's what he said about the church on his blog:

'It was my great pleasure to speak at the opening of the newly constructed Elim Church in Lisburn. The dream began seven years ago and the opening was attended by a packed church together with the local mayor and member of parliament as well as Elim's Irish Superintendent Eric McComb.
Great tribute was paid to Pastor Norman Christie and his wife Doreen for their tenacity during the period in which plans were laid and finances raised.
The new facility provides comprehensive accommodation for all age groups and, apart from a greatly increased sanctuary area, includes a youth wing and glass prayer tower.'
Up close & personal
We speak to a member at Lisburn City Elim Pentecostal Church to hear his perspective on the church...
What’s your name, where do you live and what do you do?
My name is Kyle Moore and I live in Dromore, County Down. I work as a Sage consultant, installing, supporting and training on financial software packages. I attend Lisburn City Elim with my wife Pamela and children Joshua (8) and Abigail (5).
Why and when did you start attending?
When we started attending the church in the summer of 2002 we were blessed by the presence of God in the services, the strong sense of vision and the anointed teaching and worship.
What do you like most about the church?
I love many things about my church. It is exciting and challenging, with Godly anointed Pastoral leadership which faithfully declares the whole counsel of God. I love the freedom to worship God. I love that His name is exalted above all others and that the glory is always directed to Him.
How is the church challenging and encouraging you in your walk with God?
I love the journey of learning what God is saying to us as individuals, a family and a collective group. I love seeing that vision unfold as God stirs us to a closer walk with Him and greater action in the world around us.
